Swansea Canal Camp - CC201917
Location: South Wales
Activities: Heritage construction skills
Dates: 24th – 31st August 2019
The Swansea Canal originally ran for 16.5 miles. It was steeply graded and 36 locks were needed to enable it to rise 373 feet over its length. Subsequently, parts of it were closed and filled in but around 6 miles of it remains in water. Volunteers will be working at Ynysmeudwy Upper Lock clearing the chamber walls of vegetation, repointing with lime mortar, painting the safety rails and clearing the overgrown pound between the Upper and Lower Locks.
